Three days of Rotorua are wearing me out but I had lots of great fun!! The place was just awesome!!!
I was at school by 7.20am on Wednesday. All of us were looking so blur. School starts at 8.40am, when do we have to get up at 6??? All of us were quite punctual except my friend who managed to catch the bus at the very last minute. She arrived at school around 7.45am. I thought the ride to Rotorua would be at least 4 hours. I get motion sickness so very easily so I took lots of food and tidbits with me. However those had no use for me as I was sleeping the whole way through. After 2 hours on the road, we stopped at Matamata (for those LOTR fans, it was the location for Hobbiton) for 20 minutes. It was a lovely town but quite small... Sort of the Serian town type. A few shops, no buildings higher than 2 storeys. I walked around the town with Cathy and Narena. It was freezing in Matamata. I had one of my thickest jacket on (FYI: Thickest= 2 layers)
Reached Rotorua at around 11.20am. Had my lunch at the waterfront. It was really windy. It doesn't seem any different from Auckland and the wind is so much less ferocious but, BUT it's soooooo much colder in Rotorua. No idea why... Hahaha... I loved the waterfront. It is built at the edges of Lake Rotorua. There are lots of humongous lakes in Rotorua. There's Lake Taupo and Lake Tarawera. After lunch we had to get on to our plans. Museum and our field trip. We were split into 3 groups (75 students, what do you expect?)I was in the first group. Had a splendid tour of the old Bath House (erm... lots of hot pools in Rotorua. People came from overseas just for the hot pools.) which is now incidentally a museum. Then went on a Duck Tour. The guy who took us on the ride was fun. He joked to whole way through. Went to Lake Rotorua, Lake Taupo and Lake Tararewa. Took us more than an hour. He asked us to sing our school song when we went up the hill. I have no idea how my school song is like. There's like 2 versions of it. One in English and one is in Maori. Obvoiusly we would sing the English one. It was pathetic. He commented on it... Don't blame me. They don't force us to learn the song by heart during our orientation week like our school. I've not heard it even though I was already in school for more than 4 months. We were back at the museum at 3.30pm. We were due to go on our field trip which was to do whatever we need to do for our research on the tourism in Rotorua. We harassed lots of tourists to do our surveys and I met quite a few Malaysians (I'm sure about two of them. They were speaking Malay!!) but I didn't tell them that I'm a Malaysian. The Caucasians were kinda cool. They did the surveys willingly and happily. I met two Chinese and I asked them if they were tourists or not. They looked at me like "HUH??!" So I switched to Chinese. They WERE NOT Chinese. When I thanked them and walked away, I could hear one guy saying to the another "She knows how to speak Chinese??" What the... Is it a surprised that I can speak Chinese and English well??
Back at the museum at 5pm. We had to checked into our hostel at 5.30pm. I was tired and grumpy and dirty. I was sharing my room with 4 other girls. I'm not looking forward to staying in my room because the only subject I don't have my friends in is Goegraphy. I was planning to sleep outside the room but luckily 4 very kind girls took me in... -_-" Ok... At the end of 3 days, we were great friends. Lucky that we took the 5 person room. The 2 person rooms were so so so tiny. Enough to put a bunk bed and a small dressing table. Hahaha... We had no time to shower anyway. We were all busy unpacking. We had to be out by 7pm for our dinner and at the cinema by 8.30pm.
I was looking for dinner with my new roommates, Theresa and Megan O'Neill (Another roommate of mine was Megan Bradley). We walked up and down the CBD of Rotorua for 30 minutes. We were getting really hungry. When we do sit down and eat, I was eating a Subway 6 inch sandwich, one regular fries, one small tub of mashed potatoes and coleslaw... I was that hungry... Then it's time for our movies. There are 4 movies showing. Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Kingdom of Heaven, Sahara and Friday Nights Out. I watched Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy. There was only 11 of us watching along with my Geo teacher, Mr Maltby. The movie wasa quite good if you are a big sci-fi fan. I'm not and I almost slept... Hehehehe... We finished first but we still had to wait for the others. We were all busy texting (sms-ing). Mr Maltby asked us if he will fit in if he also start texting... Hahah...
Walked back to the hostel... Took us 20 minutes. Brrr... Froze me to my bones. Hahaha... Wanted to shower but still cannot, our curfew was at 11pm. When we got back it was already 10.30pm and the showers were jammed pack with girls... SO... I decided to shower early in the morning... I did shower that morning k?? Anyway didn't sweat much so should be no problem. Changed (others were wearing pjs and long sleeves and pants but I was still wearing a t-shirt and shorts) and slipped into my warm duvet... As my friend Megan O'Neill said, It was a long yet fun day...
*To be continued when I feel like it... Hahaha...
